Welcome to CICS West Belden!
We are a tuition-free Kindergarten through 8th grade public charter school in Chicago’s Belmont-Cragin neighborhood. Our mission is to ensure that every student has the support and opportunities to succeed. We provide a rigorous, student-centered, and innovative learning environment where learners build the confidence to think critically, solve problems, and grow into lifelong learners. At CICS West Belden, we know academic success is rooted in wellness—our school culture prioritizes social-emotional learning, mental health, and restorative practices to support every child.
CICS West Belden is a nationally recognized leader in personalized learning. We design classrooms where collaboration, creativity, and innovation thrive, giving students space to explore, take risks, and discover their strengths. Because no two learners are the same, our educators tailor instruction to meet individual needs, ensuring every student has a pathway to success. Student voice is central to our work—whether through leadership opportunities, classroom choices, or schoolwide initiatives, our students help shape the culture of West Belden.
Families are vital partners in our community. Through our Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC), Parent Teacher League (PTL), and community hub model, families have meaningful opportunities to engage, lead, and connect with resources. Together, we create a joyful, inclusive environment where every student and family belongs, is supported, and can thrive.
We are part of the Distinctive Schools Network
At Distinctive Schools, we lead the charge in creating a collaborative, innovative, and welcoming public education experience. We were founded in 2011, by a passionate group of people who believed that every learner deserves access to a high-quality education where they are seen, supported, and celebrated. We elevate access, achievement, and belonging for every student so they may thrive throughout their education, career, and life. Our mission is to create diverse, joyful, welcoming communities where students become confident advocates, creative problem-solvers, and collaborative leaders. We are committed to building schools that truly feel like home – preparing students to thrive in a world of endless possibilities.

Mission
The mission of CICS West Belden, in partnership with families and the community, is to motivate, challenge, and empower today’s students through personalized innovation and choice so that they may achieve success tomorrow.
Vision
Our vision is to close the achievement gap by increasing the number of high achieving charter schools and consequently the opportunities for low-income children to succeed in school, in college, and in life. We rely on proven strategies and state-of-the-art technology to create rich learning environments for students and teachers, while making effective use of available resources.
