Cold Weather Resources
During this wave of historically dangerous and potentially life-threatening weather, the city of Chicago have a number of services available to support families. Bitter cold temperatures are more than an inconvenience; they pose a serious threat to health and safety. The city of Chicago have many services available to help residents weather the winter months.
The weather forecasts very cold air and wind that will create dangerously low wind chill values. Frostbite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken. Additionally it is expected that Chicago will face periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain that will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Dear CICS West Belden Parents and Families,
As you know, our daily attendance rate plays a big part in determining our CPS School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP). Having a high percentage of students in attendance each day can help move us back to a 1+ school! To help encourage the best attendance percentage possible, we are having an Attendance Challenge throughout the month of February! The more days that your child is in attendance, the more rewards they will earn. Here are the ways for your child to be recognized for being at school each day:
Individual Reward: If students are here everyday for the week, they will receive a raffle ticket on Friday morning before the assembly. Raffle ticket holders will get to stand up during the assembly and add their ticket to a bucket each Friday. On Friday, March 2nd we will pull 5 raffle ticket winners for a BIG SURPRISE!
Classroom Reward: All classrooms will be provided with 8 pieces of paper that spell out B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S to be displayed in the front of the classroom. Each day that the class has 100% attendance, they will turn over a card to begin to spell out BULLDOGS. First class to spell BULLDOGS can choose a class prize of their choice!
Grade-Level Reward: The grade level with the top attendance percentage for the month of February will play tug-of-war at the assembly on Friday, March 2nd!
Thank you for your help with this! We will continue to make calls home each day to check in on absences. On really cold days, remember that it is always better to bring your child late than not at all. Please help us move back to a 1+ status by bringing your child to school each day and making sure we keep the highest attendance percentage possible!
